STEM

STEM

One of our goals is that students have the skills to explore ideas and research areas by themselves or in groups. We have invested in physical resources and IT resources, so that students can learn through online research and take a 'hands on' approach as well.

Focusing on progressive steps at each level, our school teaches students about the 'Scientific Method' and using that in conjunction with an area or a question - and teaching students how they can explore and learn about this through a variety of means.

Our schools 'Digital Learning Strategy', has broken down into small progressive steps that we hope students can achieve. Steps such as; creating, editing, saving, sending and responding, to multiple forms of documents. We also use support programmes with this strategy, to help some students with typing and advanced programmes for coding.

We're very lucky with our location here in the middle of Skerries and we try and use this in line with many curricular areas, including STEM. At different levels, different focuses integrating STEM and our locality are used including; planting, bee walks, local history tour, beach investigation, data collection (Math and road) and much more.

Our school annually takes part in the ESB Science blast putting forward teams for fun and engagement with STEM education.
